Dr. Kowall is a California native and has been practicing on the Central Coast with Dr. Mooney since 1993. He is a proud member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He is a past Member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and Member of the California Orthopedic Association.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Kowall attended California State University, Northridge where he graduated summa cum laude. He attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago where he graduated with several distinguished honors and awards.
Following medical school, Dr. Kowall did his Orthopedic Surgery Residency training at Northwestern University where he was selected Chief Resident during his final year.
After residency, Dr. Kowall was selected for a top Fellowship Program at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Salt Lake City. There he received additional training specializing in knee and shoulder surgery. He trained under nationally known surgeons, Dr. Lonnie Paulos and Dr. Tom Rosenberg.
Later, while practicing medicine, Dr. Kowall returned to school and obtained his MBA from the University of California, Irvine in 2003.
In addition to general orthopedics, Dr. Kowall's expertise focuses on knee, shoulder and sports medicine conditions.
He operates at Twin Cities Community Hospital, French Hospital and Posada Surgery Center. He is current Chief of Surgery at Twin Cities Hospital and past Chief of Staff and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery.
Dr. Kowall strongly believes the most successful patient care results from a two-way treatment process. He makes a conscious effort to establish a warm, friendly rapport with each of his patients and encourages open and direct communication.
